Posted by Bonsai Care on Nov 17, 2008

I purchased a 20 watt 24" fluorescent plant light at menards recently. Had to get it, it was only 10 bucks. My question is, is this what i need for a single plant and if so what distance above the plant should the light be?

AS LONG AS ITS GETTING THE FLUORECENT LIGHT THATS ALL IT REQUIRES.BUT NOT TO CLOSE AND NOT TO FAR ABOUT FOUR OR FIVE FEET.

What are some good indoor bonsai plant to grow?

Posted by Bonsai Care on Nov 17, 2008

And where can i get some because my juniper are mainly out door.

You know you can use this site for examples.

http://www.american-bonsai.com/

Personally I would suggest joining a local bonsai club. The members would have plants that they would sell/give to a good home or know what’s available locally. Also, they’re an excellent resource for information, support and encouragement.
It’s great to see that you’re so interested, interested enough to actually seek out good indoor plants.

Good Growing.

Where can I find a windswept Bonsai plant??

Are there any plant stores or whatever, where I can buy a windswept bonsai??

You can get them at a nursery, or maybe even an asian store.

How do I take care of a Bonsai tree?

Posted by Bonsai Care on Nov 17, 2008

I just recently bought a bonsai tree from a street vender in Chinatown in NYC. How can I succesfully raise it in my house? I have it near a window, and spritz it with water. will this be enough? Also, if you could include details on other aspects of care too.

Where it grows, indoors or outdoors, will be determined by the variety of plant. Both have very specific requirements. Here's a site with care instructions.

How do I start my Japanese Maple bonsai?

Posted by Bonsai Care on Nov 12, 2008

I have 3 trees growing outdoors from seeds, 2 yrs old, 8-12" high. I cut 1/2 the roots in situ, waited 2 weeks, cut the rest of the roots in situ. My plan is to wait 2 more weeks for them to recover, then dig them up, pot them, and bring them indoors. On 2 of the trees, all the leaves are dying. Have I killed them? Will my plan still work?

I don't understand "situ." However, you don't want to bring them indoors……..EVER! They are outdoor trees and must go through the winter months (keep them above 30ºF so they don't freeze).
You may want to look at the Bonsai Care page on my site:
http://www.american-bonsai.com to get an idea about how to trim the roots and plant them in pots.

want to buy an indoor bonsai tree?

Posted by Bonsai Care on Nov 12, 2008

i want to buy a bonsai tree for my room. i want something that is taller in height (i have a specific spot where i want to place it) and maybe have some color to it, like some flowers or something. i've seen a few pictures of some. what are some easy to take care of bonsai trees that fit my description.

See my answer to your other question. Some indoor bonsai that will be "forgiving" are anything that has "fig" in the name, also Hawaiian umbrella and aralia. You may use the 'quick find' feature on my site:
http://www.american-bonsai.com . We are only able to ship to the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
