Just like with "different strokes for different folks" different types of bonsai need different environments. Maybe the plant should always be outside or always inside. You can compare the plant with pics for indoor and outdoor plants on this site and then refer to their care instructions.

How Ironic. I had the same problem happen to me around that time and I got mine in December. I called www.joebonsai.com and asked them about it. I can't guarantee that our problem is the same or can be resolved the same way because I don't know the species of your tree. Mine is a Japanese Juniper and what they told me is that mine wasn't getting enough sunlight. I was keeping mine on a windowsill facing the east. It was only getting about 4 hours of sun a day. Thankfully, I found it out then when it was only halfway brown and not later. I now moved it outside as one person said she had never heard of Juniper surviving indoors. Now, it is green and happy. As another answerer suggested above you must trim it or it will die. I don't know why, I just know it will. I hope that it isn't too late for the poor thing. I recommend you buy some from www.joebonsai.com. They are so nice and helpful. Anytime that I have a problem with my bonsai, I call them and they help me. If you have any questions, I would recommend you talk to Nancy, she has helped me tremendously. However, if she isn't available any of them are good. Jimmy, Susan, and the owner Joe have also helped me. JoeBonsai's number is 1-866-231-8616. God Bless and Good Luck!
