I think that its a great idea. A bonsai is a gift that you can watch mature and beautify over time, and it will live longer than he does

Sure. That is a stupid question to ask. if he knows how to take care of them yes. if not..yes. He can learn from them and take care of it, watch it grow, nurture it, and keep it alive. Alot like a pet, but without the mess.
They are hard to care for. Learn with him.
