Using Pet's Ashes to Plant Bonsai Tree?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Jan 6, 2009
I just lost my kitten and wanted to know if I could use her ashes to grow a new bonsai tree or other plant? Would you mix them with the soil or could I just line the bottom of the planter with them?
Firstly, please accept my condolences.
Ash can make a good fertilizer depending on the nutritional requirements of the plant. In all fairness to your pet's memory and the plant (you wouldn't want to lose both), you need to look at the type of plant and its needs. Check out the care instructions on this site.

You would do that? I think that's a little heartless, not saving your kitten's ashes to remember her. But that's your decision. Anyway, i don't think it will help grow the tree, but i don't think it will stop the growth of the tree if you mix it with soil.

I think it would be a nice way of remembering your pet and seeing how they can nurture new life.

What a beautiful idea !! Thank you for sharing it. I have ashes of my dearest pets…the thought of adding them to soil and watching and nuturing the plant as it grows is symbolic of thier lives.
