How often should I water my bonsai tree in the winter?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Dec 31, 2008
And how much water? It's an indoor bonsai and is about 30 cm high.
Indoor bonsai are more subject to drying in winter when the humidity in your home is usually very low. Conifers are particularly susceptible. Water thoroughly every several days, sooner if the leaves (needles) appear to droop. About once a month, immerse the entire pot up to the soil level in room-temperature tap water. It helps to move the bonsai to a room with higher humidity such as a kitchen or bathroom window sill.

I just recently received a bonsai tree and?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Dec 27, 2008
the person who gave it as a present told me I should water it every two days. Does that mean it is an indoor bonsai tree? I am not sure of its type. Also, how should I trim it? Its leaves are very thin and small.
Compare your plant with pics on this site and you can check for appropriate care instructions too.

Indoor bonsai tree?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Dec 21, 2008
How can i make a bonsai tree out of a spruce or anoher plant to keep indoors. How do you wire it into shape, prune it, and keep it small
The only trees you can keep indoors at all times are tropicals. Trees growing outdoors where it gets cold will not survive indoors for more than a few days. They need the changes in temperature of their natural environment.
No matter how many junipers the big box stores try to sell as indoor bonsai, it just doesn't work.
Some good tropicals to start with would be Ficus, Serrissa or even Schefflera.
The subject of bonsai is extensive and I would suggest some studying before jumping in. You could try reading & post at this forum too…

Im looking for plants for indoor bonsai. -any ideas?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Dec 9, 2008
Ive been doing some research online for bonsai that are able to grow indoors as house plants, im interested in doing it with a ficus or something close to that. Does anyone personally know of any plants that can be grown indoors into interesting and unique bonsai? I would appreciate the help. Thanks
A few years ago I became interested in bonsai. We live near a seashore state park where there are a lot of scrub pine growing in the sand dunes. I found stunted pine trees (about 5 inches tall) that made a great starting plant. They are very hardie and have a nice root system for wrapping around rocks ect. If you are carful you can trim them back until they have the right look. Doing this will leave you with almost an instant bonsai tree which will live inside. ALL bonsai. need to spend some time outside. Pick a nice day and set it in the sun for the day. do this about once a week for best results. good luck
I need information about growing bonsai (indoor or outdoor)! Anyone?

I live in central Queensland, Australia. About 3 hrs from Toowoomba. Does anyone know where I can get some information on growing bonsai, prefferably indoor but any info can help. Are there any books or websites that are good sources on how to grow bonsai in Australia? Please help me?
Bonsai is not a plant, it is the art of pruning plants ( usually shrubs) into different shapes and forms thereby keeping them small. You can have bonsai indoors or out depending on the plant you use.
Check out google for the technique, or try your library, gardening web sites ect.

How do I take care of my ficus indoor bonsai?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Nov 21, 2008
I'd like to know when I need to water it and prune it and how long it may live? Oh and I pruned a leaf off and a white substance came out, what is that?
WATER? Don't set up a schedule, water it when the top 1/2" of soil is dry. It likes to be moist, but not soaking wet.
PRUNE? When new growth comes out where you don't want it, and you can trim the tips of new growth to make it fill-in more.
HOW LONG WILL IT LIVE? Long enough to pass to your grandchildren, and their children.
WHITE SUBSTANCE? It's the sap, and a "self-healer." Wash it off your skin before it dries. It won't hurt you, but will get dark and may be slightly irritating.

What are some good indoor bonsai plant to grow?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Nov 17, 2008
And where can i get some because my juniper are mainly out door.
You know you can use this site for examples.

Personally I would suggest joining a local bonsai club. The members would have plants that they would sell/give to a good home or know what’s available locally. Also, they’re an excellent resource for information, support and encouragement.
It’s great to see that you’re so interested, interested enough to actually seek out good indoor plants.
Good Growing.
