Mood lighting a interesting containers with artifacts and rocks all go to making up the miniature landscape which is your bonsai. Much more than a tree or a plant the art of bonsai is a landscape sculpture. I am especially fond of the bonsai forests especially the ones you feel you could get lost in.

can you keep japanese maple bonsai indoors?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Mar 25, 2009
My boyfriend bought a japanses maple that is about 2 feet tall, still very young.. and we kept it indoors all winter, we were scared that it would die in the cold.
also, it has little seedlings growing in it's pot, is it at all possible for me to take one and tend to it so that it would stay a tiny indoor bonsai?
Was this a mistake? It is beginning to warm up now, so should we bring it back outside?
Its a bonsai, so it wont get much bigger. iT DOESNT NEED MUCH WATER OR SUNLIGHT, (caps lock, sry). Its pretty much an indoor platn can live outside. Basicly, chose which is better for your decorationg scheme.
Do you shape your pubic hair like a Japanese gardener shapes a Bonsai tree???

With Ginsu Knives and a flair for radish flowers? Yeah, I guess.
The girl I'm dating wanted to go to Japan. Will a bonsai tree turn her off or cheer her up? It's alot of work
Posted by Bonsai Care on Mar 4, 2009
Bonsai trees are alot of work. Will that responsibility make her feel like I'm moving too fast? She really wanted to go but she couldn't and she's bummed about it so I thought I would give her something that's Japanese to cheer her up
That's a really wonderful idea. You could give her a card with it that says something about how patience is the key to developing a beautiful bonsai tree, and you know that with patience she will one day get to take her longed-for trip to Japan (and that you are rooting for her all the way.)
You are a sweetie. I love this idea.

How often do you need to trim a bonsai?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Feb 27, 2009
I just got a japanese pepper tree bonsai. Not really sure as to how often i need to trim it, i mean i dont want to over do it, and end up killing it or something.
Hi,
Pruning of bonsai trees should be done mostly in the growing season of the plant. Basic pruning can be classified into form pruning and maintenance pruning. Form pruning is carried out to give a shape to your bonsai plant where as maintenance pruning needs to be done through out the year to remove dead foliage or cut the extra growth.
Hope this information was useful to you. For more information on bonsai pruning please visit the link

What is the best Bonsai for me, a beginner?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Feb 19, 2009
Japanese white pine, Japanese maple, Chinese juniper or Chinese elm?
It depends. It depends on you, your experience, your horticultural knowledge, your location and your environment. The trees you have listed all have unique challenges. All “can” be grown by a beginner, and would do best grown outdoors. I would suggest you find a local club and ask what others are growing in your area. If you can’t find a local club your next bet is to check a garden center and ask what grows where you are.
You need to make sure you pick a healthy plant and do your best to keep it healthy. This requires a well draining soil, plenty of water, sunshine, and fertilizer. All this depends, again, on a number of different variables.
For a list of local clubs check the link below:

How safe is the worlds financial markets a week ago the Japanese Sumo bank went belly up,then Kamikaze bank—

Took a nose dive and yesterday the Bonsai bank cut some of it's branches and today there was reported some fishy going on,s in the Sushi bank.Do you think it would be an honourable thing to do to withdraw from the scene
Yes, but don't mess up with them first, allow , Sumo bank to wrestle down Kamikaze Bank to crash on Bonzai Bank, and Sushi Bank assets shall be eaten up by Sumo Bank, and finally if you really want to withdraw your life time savings from Sumo Bank, Advise the manager that you shall harakiri your account harriedly, Oki, haik.!, Banzai Nippon!
Has anyone heard of that sicko in New York that sells "Bonsai Kittens"?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Feb 15, 2009
This is so terrible. A site that we were able to shut last year has returned. We have to try to shut it down again! (www.bonsaikitten.com) A Japanese man in New York breeds and sells kittens that are called BONSAI CATS. That would sound cute, if it weren't kittens that were put in to little bottles after being given a muscle relaxant and then locked up for The rest of their lives! The cats are fed through a straw and have a small tube for their Faces. The skeleton of the cat will take on the form of the bottle as the kitten grows. The cats never get the opportunity to move. They are used as original and exclusive souvenirs. These are the latest trends in New York, China, Indonesia and New Zealand. If you think you can handle it, view www.bonsaikitten.com and have a look at th methods being used to put these little kittens into bottles.
It's a hoax - no one actually does it.

Im new to growing bonsai’s
i have just purchased some Japanese maple seeds and i would like to force germination.
Can some one please tell me how to do that with maple seeds and if there are any things i should know.
First of all, seeds will germinate into standard plants. Turning the plant into a bonsai comes afterwards.

How do we bonsai tree?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Feb 1, 2009
I’d like to start from scratch, i have no idea on how it’s done… i only know that it takes a lot of time and effort. I pretty much like the type with red maple leaves. Not sure if it’s the “Japanese Maple Bonsai” though. I’d like to have it indoor, and i live on the Mediterranean coast.
By the way, we start by planting seeds, a branch piece or…? and is there any book on how to bonsai tree???
Thank you
can sum1, who actually practices bonsai-ing give sum tips? like which type of tree to start with? what to avoid? …
http://www.bonsaisite.com/
There may be more than one red-leafed tree used in Bonsai, but the one I’ve always heard of is the Maple. The site above has really good information about Bonsai and some directions on how to get started…Good luck!
Japanese Red Maple and Red Sunset Maple Question!?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Jan 30, 2009
I bought these two trees about 2 feet tall each. I need to know the type of soil, sun and information to take care of them. I live in zone 5, and I am trying to grow them into bonsai trees. please give as much information as you can.
Thank You.
i need the details about Japanese Red Maple and/or Red Sunset Maple tree.
Overview : The Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum) is the most widely grown maple in gardens and is a perfect subject for bonsai. It is valued for its compact size, delicate ferny foliage and brilliant fall (autumn) coloring - from rich gold to deepest blood-red. The more than 300 cultivars range from rock garden miniatures to vigorous small trees, with a variety of leaf shape, size and color.
General Care : Requires semi-shade in summer, full sun the rest of the year, and protection from wind.
Pinch out 'ambitious' or unwanted shoots in spring - with main pruning to be conducted at this type of year. When new shoots have developed to around three to five nodes - prune them - but make sure to leave at least 1cm (1/2in) extra to allow for die back. This is something important to do when pruning all types of Japanese maples. Trim leaves in late spring.
Re-pot and fertilize in late winter to early spring.
Water as frequently as needed - do not allow bonsai to dry out as this can also cause leaf burn.
Other Comments : Although more tolerant of winter climates than most maples, it needs shade and shelter or leaves may shrivel.
Available in nurseries with more unusual and rare forms found in bonsai nurseries or through mail-order services in seedling or seed form.
Be careful of drying winds which can be quite detrimental if the plant is fully exposed - causing leaf burn and die back - especially for new formed shoots.
How do i revive my Bonsai Tree i think its dead?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Jan 24, 2009
i have a Japanese White pine (pinus parviflora)and am usure if it is dead or not all the leave have fallen off,
i have been told to scratch the trunk of the tree and see if it is moist or green or whitish (it is but a brownish color) the branches are all dry and snap easy i have also tried putting it in a polytene bag and still no sucess.
Also when i water it the soil stays moist but grows some kind of white moss. please any help would be grateful
If all the needless have fallen, it is dead or nearly dead. It is an evergreen which means it should always have green needles. This is an outdoor tree, and if you are keeping it inside, that is a sure way to kill it.
I needs a cold winter so it can go dormant. If you would like complete care instructions, email me at
wchoat@american-bonsai.com and I'll send them to you.
You're welcome to check my website
www.american-bonsai.com
Another tip, if you have been keeping indoors, take it outside RIGHT NOW, take it out of the pot, and plant it in good soil for the rest of the winter. This MAY help, but only a slight chance.
what how when is best to plant Meigetsu Japanese Maple seeds!?
Posted by Bonsai Care on Jan 18, 2009
i am trying to make good beautiful Bonsai .
i got seeds and i cant wait to plant them!
The state of your seeds will determine the best propagation methods. If seeds are fresh (not dried out), then plant directly and they should germinate. If your seeds are dry, they may be doubly dormant. Then soak in hot water for two days. Change water every day. Cold stratify in moist sand or vermiculite in the fridge for 2-3 months. Sow seeds into pots and keep warm & moist for two months and then chill again in the fridge for another 2 months. This should break dormancy of dried, viable seeds and produce new seedlings. Start now!
