Peruse this site for ideas. Your access to indoor light and humidity will have a significant impact what will ultimately grow well in your environment.

A few years ago I became interested in bonsai. We live near a seashore state park where there are a lot of scrub pine growing in the sand dunes. I found stunted pine trees (about 5 inches tall) that made a great starting plant. They are very hardie and have a nice root system for wrapping around rocks ect. If you are carful you can trim them back until they have the right look. Doing this will leave you with almost an instant bonsai tree which will live inside. ALL bonsai. need to spend some time outside. Pick a nice day and set it in the sun for the day. do this about once a week for best results. good luck
References :
Try an Australian tea tree or a Monteray cyprus. Some small leaf myrtles and some small leaf fuschias can be grown inside....there are also some varigated varieties of ficus that are interesting. Good luck.
References :
Personal experience
